General Description:

The Testing Services Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the materials testing department including, but not limited to, reviewing daily scheduling, training, and reporting as well as ensuring that applicable industry, federal, and state requirements are being followed. Provides proposals/scope of services while developing and maintaining client relations. This is a salaried exempt position that reports to the Area Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and drive profitability of testing department within defined guidelines as set forth by Area Manager.
  • Manage construction materials testing and special inspection services.
  • Supervise technicians, special inspectors, laboratory staff, and project managers, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Review and approve employee expenses and timesheets for accuracy daily.
  • Provide and/or arrange for training and development of technicians, special inspectors, laboratory staff, and project managers.
  • Review and determine scheduling of technicians and inspectors for field testing and inspection projects.
  • Review construction materials testing and special inspection reports for accuracy and quality. Ensure timely review and turnaround of reports within 24 hours of service event.
  • Manage construction materials testing and special inspection services, fleet, and equipment.
  • Review and determine scheduling of technicians and special inspectors for projects.
  • Ensure that materials testing, special inspections and associated paperwork and computations are in accordance with industry standards and comply with applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Provide construction materials testing and special inspection services for projects as needed to meet workload demands.
  • Oversee and track ongoing projects for profitability.
  • Develop client relationships within the engineering, architectural, and construction industry, and achieve new business growth for the testing services department.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and secure contracts for construction materials testing and special inspection services for the Area Manager’s approval and signature.
  • Manage work-in-progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) for the department and perform collection communication as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA) and other pertinent loss prevention information and incorporating methods into day-to-day activities.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources in hiring, terminations, benefits, annual performance reviews, wage analysis, employee morale, job descriptions, and other duties as may be defined by the Area Manager.

Education, Certifications, and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum ten years of experience working in the construction materials testing and special inspection industry preferred.
  • Five years of experience in a supervisory role in construction materials testing and special inspection.
  • ACI, ICC, WAQTC certifications strongly preferred.
  • P.E. License and/or NICET certifications are highly desirable.
  • A valid driver’s license with a good standing driving record.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Detail oriented, well organized with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple technicians and projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and current versions of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in use of mobile devices for field work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • The ability to work well within a team environment and positively motivate and engage staff in support of ALLWEST objectives.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to continuously sit, stand, and walk with occasional stooping, kneeling and/or crawling, and ability to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to work outside in various weather conditions. Ability to drive to and from work sites. Ability to occasionally travel overnight. These requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range
$80,000 to $100,000 salary depending on experience.
